GCPI is a local nonprofit in Illinois serving South Asian immigrants, refugees and homeless communities — with a focus on Pakistani, Afghan, Indian, Nepali and Bangladeshi individuals — through emotional wellbeing, economic self‑sufficiency, and transitional housing.
GCPI bridges a service gap that's often missing among immigration, refugee and homeless-serving agencies: emotional health and wellbeing paired with economic self-sufficiency. Immigrants, refugees, homeless individuals and job providers collaboratively build self-sufficiency plans over as many as three years — a more realistic timeframe than most federal or state-funded programs allow.
We emphasize transitional housing and educational achievement for children and adults alike, bridging the language and educational gap between parents, children and communities with career counselors and language experts.
When a child, adult or caregiver struggles with mental, emotional, work, school or relationship problems, we partner with donors, communities and experts to support prevention, intervention, treatment and reintegration.
Research shows that something as simple as proper shoes can cut poverty by a third, by letting people travel to work and keeping children in school. We collect and distribute clothing, shoes and household essentials to meet basic survival needs.
We bring communities together to strengthen children, parents and family relationships, promoting positive childhood experiences and advocating for trauma-informed policies so children can grow free of violence, abuse and neglect.
