Director, GCPI
Dear Members of Global Child Protection Institute — GCPI,
As the director of GCPI, I envision "a welcoming world for refugees, immigrants and homeless where their rights are protected and their safety is secured," and I believe that social change can happen through inspiration. GCPI stands as a beacon of hope, a safe haven where immigrants, refugees and homeless can find support and guidance for economic, emotional and housing self-sufficiency.
Every day, GCPI opens its doors to greet individuals, families and communities to help them achieve their resettlement and self-sufficiency goals. Over the years, GCPI has grown from strength to strength, providing vital support, resources and advocacy for immigrants, refugees and homeless from diverse backgrounds.
In pursuit of our mission, we will strive to:
I encourage our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors and sponsors to actively engage with GCPI. Your contributions are truly invaluable — share your stories, ideas and expertise, as they form the foundation of our collective strength.
Warmest regards,
Pervaiz Tufail, Director, Global Child Protection Institute
GCPI envisions a welcoming world for refugees, immigrants and homeless children, families and communities where their rights are protected and their safety is secured.
A world with no people forced to flee their homes — where everyone has access to clothing, food, safety and the opportunity to live the violence-free life they dream of.
GCPI is a local nonprofit in Illinois serving all, with a special focus on South Asian immigrants, refugees and homeless — Pakistani, Afghan, Indian, Nepali and Bangladeshi communities — with a track record of economic self-sufficiency, long-term transitional housing and mental health stability.
Global Child Protection Institute began its mission informally in 2005 and formally attained 501(c) status in the United States in 2017. Founded in 2005 and officially registered in 2017 by a group of Pakistani, Afghani, Indian and Ukrainian immigrants and refugees, GCPI assists South Asian immigrant, refugee and homeless communities regardless of faith, race, ethnicity or nationality.
GCPI was conceptualized and strategically developed by Pervaiz Tufail, whose lived experience as a former street child and later an immigrant to the United States shaped the organization's purpose and direction. Working alongside a committed network of child rights advocates, capacity-building experts, trainers and homeless support advocates, Mr. Tufail transformed this vision into a growing institution with an operational presence in Chicago (USA), Islamabad (Pakistan) and Kabul (Afghanistan).
GCPI coordinates its projects with federal, state and locally funded programs, resettlement agencies, Child Protective Services (CPS) and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to foster protection, resettlement and reintegration in new and welcoming communities.
We are accountable to our clients, donors and stakeholders — providing honest, fact-based reports on the impact of every dollar.
We operate without hidden agendas. Funding received, how it's spent, and the outcomes achieved are publicly available.
We design programs with an understanding of trauma and emotional turmoil, helping people become resilient with respect and dignity.
All immigrants, refugees and homeless have equal access to services, resources and opportunity — free of discrimination.
Every individual, family and community is unique. Our team spans backgrounds we consider a strategic advantage.
International human rights frameworks guide our services, alongside free communication and open, collaborative decision-making.
GCPI's leadership team — comprising the Board of Directors, Advisors, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Program Management — is committed to the safe, happy and healthy transition, resettlement and integration of immigrants, refugees and homeless individuals into nurturing environments, communities and societies.
The Board of Directors plays a crucial role in the governance and oversight of GCPI, acting in the best interests of the organization and its stakeholders to ensure long-term success and sustainability.
